Michael is the President of LARKIN+ which was founded in 1996 with the intent to bring personalized service to his clients.

With over 30 years of professional planning experience, Michael brings a unique perspective to bear when looking at challenging planning challenges. His early experience working for the Canada Mortgage And Housing Corporation (CMHC), followed by working in the development sector, and finally planning consulting practices has provided Michael with a depth of knowledge of planning from multiple perspectives. Originally from Montreal PQ, Michael has lived in the Maritimes, southern Ontario and Alberta before settling in Newmarket, which has been home base since 1989. Michael graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1982, earning a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) – Urban Planning degree.

In 2011 – 2012, Michael reinvigorated his academic pursuits by completing a Masters of Planning degree from Ryerson University in 2012. He is an active member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), and has the designation of Registered Professional Planner (RPP) in the Province of Ontario. His professional practice spans most Provinces in Canada, with a particular focus on Southern Ontario. His projects span a variety of land use planning, including residential (low, medium and high density projects), commercial, industrial, and institutional proposals, representing both private and public sector clients. Michael is considered to be one of the foremost experts in the area of land use policy relating to cemeteries, their development and expansion. In recognition of his accomplishments, Michael has been called on for expert testimony and objective review regarding planning issues and has made presentations at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), public hearings, and municipal council meetings.

Personal

Originally from Montreal PQ, Michael grew up in the West Island and the Maritimes, before eventually moving on to Southern Ontario and Alberta. Michael graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1982, earning a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) – Urban Planning degree.  Following graduation Michael lived in Toronto before getting married and settling in Newmarket to raise a family. Newmarket has been his home base since 1989. Personal interests include photography, trains and fine wines. He has a passion for travel and experiencing different cultures, always with an eye as to how urban spaces are organized. His adventures have included the far east (Hong Kong), Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean, the United States and of course across Canada, always the student.

In 2011 – 2012, Michael reinvigorated his academic pursuits by completing a Masters of Planning degree from Ryerson University in 2012. Personal development remains Michael’s focus, and he brings his passions to his professional practice.
